D. M. Read, or Read's as it was more commonly known, was Bridgeport's leading department store. The flagship was built in 1925 at Broad and John Streets in downtown Bridgeport. The building now houses a ground floor convenience food shop and a martial arts academy, and art space/lofts on the upper floors. The former Read's store - now officially Read's Artspace - has also been known as Sterling Lofts.
