May Company was a department store chain based in Cleveland. It was one of the first acquisitions by the May Department Stores Company, and May Company maintained a dominant position throughout northern Ohio, until its consolidation into May's Kaufmann's division in Pittsburgh. The downtown store presided over Cleveland's Public Square, across the street from its key department store competitors, Higbee's.
